GTA IV Breaks Guiness Records
Written by Corey Winter
Tuesday, 13 May 2008

We all know that Grand Theft Auto IV would make major profits in a short amount of time, but we didn't think it would break records.

According to QJ.Net, Guiness World Records has announced that Grand Theft Auto IV currently holds 2 world records. The first is for overall revenue sales within the first 24 hours of the game's release. The other record is for being the fastest selling piece of entertainment software.

As we neglected to post when the stats came in, GTA IV had a tremendous 1st week success. On the release day alone - April 29th, 2008 - Grand Theft Auto IV sold 3.6 million copies. Within the first week, it sold around 6 million copies. That totaled to be around $500 million.

Also worth mentioning, Grand Theft Auto IV climbed to the #1 spot of most-played Xbox Live games. In the UK, Chart Track announced that GTA IV sold 926,000 copies during its first week on sale, grossing £39.9m which easily places it as the most successful video game launch in UK history.

Grand Theft Auto IV is going places! Congratulations on making pretty much the most succesful video game of all time Rockstar!

Official Site Updated

The official Grand Theft Auto IV website was updated today. There wasn't a ton of new stuff, but I was satisfied with what we got:

Check it out now!

Vehicles, Cheats, and other stuff
Written by Corey Winter
Thursday, 01 May 2008

So we've been talking with some other GTA webmasters about the near future of GTA IV. By this, I mean when can we get official, completed lists of the GTA IV content. For example:

  • An official list of vehicles. We have thought about putting effort into making one ourselves, but that would be freaking hard considering that there are several different looks for one car.
  • Any more cheats? Now that we have some basic cheats, will there be anymore? Come on, even GTA III had more cheats than this.
  • and other stuff.

Since the release of the game, we have gathered a bunch of new information about the game that we will be adding to the site today and tomorrow (i.e.: Cast, weapons, item locations, characters, guides, etc..)

Honestly, I didn't notice any big name celebrities doing the voice acting like we were informed (nobody like Sam Jackson or Ray Liotta that is.)

And we have another site feature that is launching soon that ties in with GTA IV. Stay tuned for more information.

Grand Theft Auto IV Top Story

Grand Theft Auto IV is the main story on MSN's main website. When you click on the article it takes you to an article posted on MSNBC written by Derrick J Lang from the Associated Press.

At the bottom of the article, there are three more articles about GTA IV if you would like to read those.

Midnight Release Coverage
Written by Cameron
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

CENTERVILLE, UTAH - BY Cameron.

Waiting in anticipation I arrived home from school and instantly checked the internet for Grand Theft Auto IV updates to help calm me down until the big release.

Remembering that G4TV was having exclusive coverage Monday night of the game, I printed off four flyers and posted them around my home as I waited.

Six o'clock struck the clock and it was time to go pre-pay for my game. As I drove to GameStop the sun shined in through the window, reminding me of the very first time I watched the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV as I was amazed by the amazing sun effects, and that just made me get even more excited.

Exiting off of I-15 and taking a left, I could now see the GameStop sign. As we pulled into the parking lot, Niko's face covered every window, as did large Grand Theft Auto IV logos.

I opened the door and saw advertisements including promotional game cases everywhere. A kid named Mike stood in front of me prepaying for his copy of GTA IV and getting the lenghty details on how he was to retrieve it. He said "That's great, I just can't wait to play the game!"

It was now my turn, though the man with the long pony tail didn't help me, he seemed pretty psyched as he prepared other people for the game.

I was helped by a younger worker who looked up our reservation then charged me $58. That was probably the best $58 I have ever spent.

I was able to talk to a GameStop employee earlier in the afternoon as he informed me the lenghty GameStop process of receiving GTA IV.

1. Prepay for the game.

2. Come back at 10 PM and get a ticket.

3. Come back at midnight in a large crowd and pick up your copy of GTA IV.

The employee just found the process "ridiculous," as did I. He said "GameStop wanted to add a new twist on how they sell games at big releases." Boy did they do that!

I payed for my game and left GameStop. I was informed that because I had pre-ordered the game and pre-payed it, they would hold my copy for two days, so I skipped the midnight release, and now I await for my game today.

While I had troubles with getting mine at midnight, a friend of mine had a little better luck than I did.

We will call him Jason (partly because that's his name). I informed Jason, who had also preordered from GameStop, about the pre-pay, ticket, and pickup process. He thought it flat out "sucked."

Jason also decided to prepay and was going to pick up his copy today. Upon his arrival at GameStop in Layton, Utah, he pre-payed and they gave him his ticket for the line right there.

Because of his early ticket receiving, Jason now sits at home, playing GTA like he has never played before.

I'm not sure how your luck was with receiving the game, but hopefully all of you loyal fans of the series out there now proudly hold a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV in your hands.

We can all agree, this game is freaking awesome!

Grand Theft Auto IV OUT NOW
Written by Corey Winter
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

The game that is sure to collect every video game award at every video game awards show out there has now been released across the world. The game I am talking about is Grand Theft Auto IV.

It's been a long 6-month delay, but the wait was well worth it. Just imagine how much worse off the game would have been if the Rockstar Games team didn't have an extra six months to work on it. I can tell you right now, the game probably wouldn't be expected to sell 9 million copies. If you haven't heard about the recent article that says GTA IV is expected to sell 9 million copies within the first week, you can right here.

Let's go back in time for a second. Do you remember March 1st, 2007? That is when the teaser site for GTA IV went online, and when the first trailer for GTA IV was announced. Do you realize how much hype was built up for the game due to that one announcement? The GTA community and video game fans alike burst out with excitement. At this point in time, absolutely nothing was known about GTA IV. We had no idea who the main character was, no idea what city it was taking place in if it was in fact a city.

Let's fast forward a few weeks to March 29th, 2007. Do you remember what happen on that day? I'm sure you do. That is when the first trailer was released for GTA IV. That is when the first glimpse of the all new open-world game was finally open to the public. But still, there wasn't much known about the game. It was still many hours after this that we officially learned the city we saw was in fact Liberty City. The GTA-Division team was able to slow down the trailer and discover that there was an LCPD police car in one of the shots. This was in no way a confirmation, but it was something. We also got the first glimpse of the main character, but we had no idea what his name was. Let's not forget that so many people visited the GTA IV website that it crashed due to too many visitors.

Over the next few months, the first previews of the game are published, the first coming from Game Informer Magazine. The Special Edition of GTA IV is also announced, and a delay for the game is predicted by a financial analysist. Then on June 28th, 2007, the second official trailer is released. Oh what a glorious day. The GTA IV website once again crashed, but it came back online soon afterwards. Before this trailer was released, we got an official confirmation that the main character's name is Niko Bellic, and the city is a revamped Liberty City.

T

hen the tragic day came. On August 2nd, 2007, the announcement that the game would be delayed came. The video game world (especially the GTA fan community) broke out in tears. No one knew how long the delay would be. The months go past with nearly no news at all. We pass the original release date of October 16th with no news at all. After months of silence, the box art for the game is revealed via a special video on November 28th, 2007 as well as the announcement of the third trailer.

On December 6th, 2007, the 3rd official trailer is released. This one is quite longer than the previous 2 and shows more action sequences.

The new year is where the action really begins. On January 24th, 2008, the game is announced for a April 29th, 2008 release. Between January and March, the news really starts to roll in. Previews are being released out the wazzoo, the GTA IV Advertisement campaign is back to work with paintings of GTA IV artwork appearing in New York, and on March 7th the 4th official trailer is announced. On March 27th, 2008, the 4th trailer is released.

Between March 27th and April 28th, the news didn't stop for even one day. Previews, screenshots, news, official site updates, trailer #5, and so much more. About a week before the game is released, Rockstar gives the go-ahead to release the reviews early.

And here we are. It has been a long wait. The game was announced back on May 9th, 2006 at E3 '05 by Microsoft's Peter Moore. The video of the announcement can still be seen on YouTube.

Go have fun. I know I already have.

New Cheats are Out
Written by Cameron
Monday, 28 April 2008

Official cheats for Grand Theft Auto IV are now out. Of course this is nowhere near the complete list (at least I hope not, as there are only a few cheats) of cheats so be sure to check our site often for updates.

Rullon has now created the cheats page for GTA IV on our site, which can be seen here.

Grand Theft UPS
Written by Cameron
Monday, 28 April 2008

Employees of the UPS were caught trying to steal copies of Grand Theft Auto IV. Many employees have already been fired and more are expected to be fired soon.

It looks like they took the GTA series to seriously and incorporated it into their own lives, they sure sound like winners.

Thanks to PlanetGTA for the news!

9 Million Copies to be Sold
Written by Cameron
Monday, 28 April 2008

The Associated Press is reporting that an expected nine million copies of Grand Theft Auto IV will be released opening day.

At least a few million copies have already been sold because of different time zones, here in the United States, most of us are still waiting!

Congratulations to Rockstar, as this is by far going to be the biggest release of the year. I have a major feeling GTA IV will break the record of most copies sold of a game (again).

Update on GameStop
Written by Cameron
Monday, 28 April 2008
Today I spoke to GameStop and heres the scoop: You can go at 6PM to pre-pay for the game and have a "party."

At 10 PM they will start to form a line and give you a ticket with a number on it. TO GET GTA IV AT MIDNIGHT YOU NEED THIS TICKET!

Then you can leave after you have your ticket and at 12 AM (midnight) come back and purchase the game. If you need this ticket, what was the point of preordering? If your wondering that question, so am I...I preordered months ago and it sounds like unless I have this ticket, I don't get the game.
